Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu, then About This Mac. A Chip line means Apple silicon, which Munu supports. A Processor line means Intel, which is not supported yet.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11 on a 64-bit PC, or macOS 15 or newer on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer)
- An internet connection
- An email address, to sign in with a code
- A microphone and speakers or headphones, for voice
- About 1 GB of free disk space
How installing works
Munu’s installers are not signed by Microsoft or Apple yet, so the first time you open one your computer shows a warning. Here is exactly what to click.
On Windows
- Open Munu-1.0.0-windows-x64-setup.exe.
- If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway. If your browser asks whether to keep the file, choose Keep.
- Click Install. Munu installs for your user account only and never asks for administrator rights.
- Leave Launch Munu ticked and click Finish. Munu appears in the notification area near the clock.
- Follow the welcome window. Setup takes about three minutes.
On a Mac
- Open the .dmg file.
- Drag Munu onto Applications.
- Open Munu from your Applications folder. It lives in the menu bar at the top right, not in the Dock.
- If macOS says it could not verify Munu, click Done. Then open System Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about Munu, click Open Anyway and confirm with your password. You do this once.
- Follow the welcome window and allow the microphone when macOS asks.
Checking the file
To check that a download was not changed, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one above. On Windows, run Get-FileHash .\Munu-1.0.0-windows-x64-setup.exe in PowerShell. On a Mac, run shasum -a 256 Munu-1.0.0-macos-arm64.dmg in Terminal.
Updating
Download the new version and install it the same way. On a Mac, choose Replace when you drag Munu onto Applications. Your settings, notes and sign-in are kept.
Say its name. It answers.
Munu is a desktop voice assistant for Windows and Mac, with memory you own and hand control through your webcam.
