What is Munu?

Munu is a desktop voice assistant for Windows and Mac, made by Moon Labs. You say its name and ask out loud, and it answers out loud. It keeps notes for you in a folder you own, opens apps and websites, controls music, takes screenshots, runs longer tasks in the background, and lets you move the pointer and windows with your hands through the webcam.

Which computers does Munu run on?

Windows 10 or 11 on a 64-bit PC, and macOS 15 or newer on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported yet.

How much does Munu cost?

The first 7 days are free, with no card. After that, Munu Pro is $12 a month or $99 a year. A founding plan at $79 a year is open to the first 100 customers and has no free trial. Prices are in US dollars, and tax is added at checkout where the law requires it.

What happens when the free trial ends?

The trial ends after 7 days, or sooner if you use up its included AI use. Munu then tells you that the trial has ended and offers Munu Pro. Your notes stay in your folder either way, because they are ordinary files on your computer.

What does Munu Pro include?

The whole app plus a monthly amount of included AI use, voice too, that resets each month. There are no top-ups. If you run out before the reset, you can wait, or connect your own OpenRouter account and pay OpenRouter directly for what you use.

Can I cancel, and can I get a refund?

Yes. You can cancel any time and keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for. You can ask for a full refund of any Munu Pro charge within 14 days of the payment, no reason needed. Paddle, our payment partner, handles the payment and the refund.

Does Munu listen all the time?

While it sleeps, the microphone is checked for its name on your computer. When it thinks it heard its name, about 1.5 seconds of that audio may be sent to double-check. During a conversation, what you say is sent through OpenRouter to a speech model so it can be turned into text. It goes back to sleep by itself after about eight minutes of quiet.

Does the camera record me?

No. For hand gestures the camera is watched live on your computer to find your hands, and nothing from it is recorded or saved. A picture leaves the computer only when you ask Munu to look at something, such as “Munu, what am I holding?”, and then it sends one picture for that one question.

Where are my notes kept?

In a folder of plain Markdown files on your computer, in Documents unless you choose another place. You can open it with Obsidian or any text editor, read everything, and fix anything. Munu only writes in its own notes and logs every change.

Does Munu work without the internet?

No. The AI models and the voice services are in the cloud, so Munu needs an internet connection to think, hear and speak.

Which languages does Munu speak?

Version 1.0 understands and speaks English only.

Can Munu send emails or messages for me?

No. In version 1.0 it can make a draft in Mail on a Mac for you to read and send yourself. On a Mac, before it presses Return in a chat or mail app, it asks and waits until you say “Munu confirm”.

Can Munu move my mouse by itself?

No. You can move the pointer with your own hand through hand gestures, but the assistant does not move the mouse or click on its own in version 1.0.

Why does Windows or macOS warn me when I install Munu?

The first downloads are not signed yet, so Windows may say “Windows protected your PC” and macOS may say it could not verify Munu. On Windows, click More info, then Run anyway. On a Mac, click Done, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway. The download page shows each step.

Do I need an OpenRouter or Deepgram account?

No. The free trial and Munu Pro include the AI use, so there is nothing else to sign up for. Connecting your own OpenRouter account, or your own Deepgram key for voice, is optional.

How old do I need to be?

You must be 18 or older to use Munu.
