Jobs and permission cards

Start a job from your phone, what Munu asks before it acts, how to undo a job, and the chat window.

A job is a longer piece of work that Munu does on one of your computers while you do something else. Munu works freely and stops only before a few steps that cannot be undone. This guide shows how to start a job, what it asks, and how to take a job back.

Start a job from your phone

  1. Open the chat in the Munu phone app and type an idea, or attach a file or a folder.
  2. Pick the computer above the message box. The chip says Auto, Phone, or the name of a computer. If you pick a computer, the job runs on that one and on no other.
  3. Munu starts the job there with Claude Code or Codex, whichever is installed, or with its own agent if neither is. A live job card shows the progress.
  4. When the job ends, the full result and its files come back in the chat.

The computer must be on, with Munu running and signed in to the same account. On that computer, switch on Coding agents for your phone under Settings > Devices. It is off until you do.

Not sure what to ask first? In Settings > General, Start your first job has a few starter ideas. A button opens the chat with the job already written.

Each job also has a spending cap, so one job cannot use up your points. The default is 2 US dollars. See pricing for how points work.

What Munu asks before it acts

Munu does not stop for a normal click, a file change, a command or a web page. You already said yes when you gave it the job. It stops and asks only before four kinds of step:

  • A final button. The click that sends, pays, posts or submits: Submit, Send, Pay, Buy, Publish, Place order.
  • A delete for good outside the job folder. A delete inside the job folder does not ask.
  • Spending money. A payment, an order or a paid plan.
  • Sending as you. An email, a message or a post in your name, or a push to a shared code repository.

The permission card

The question comes as a card. For a final button it shows a screenshot with a box around the button. For a delete it lists the files and their sizes. It shows on the Island on your computer, and as a push on your phone.

  • Allow once. This step goes ahead. The next one like it asks again.
  • Allow always. This step goes ahead, and the same kind of step in the same app never asks again. You can remove the rule in Settings > Permissions > Always allowed.
  • Deny. The step does not happen. The job is told and goes on without it.

The first answer wins, from any device. If you do not answer, the job waits for as long as it takes, and its time limit stands still.

You can turn full access off in Settings > Permissions > Full access for coding agents. Then Claude Code can only read and edit files in the job folder and runs no commands, and Codex runs in a sandbox that can only write there.

Undo, and new instructions

Before each step of a coding job, Munu keeps a hidden copy of the job folder. It is kept in Munu’s own data, never in your folder. When the job is done:

  • Undo last step puts the folder back as it was before the last step.
  • Undo all puts it back as it was before the job started.
  • Redo brings back what Undo took away. Files the job made go to the trash, so nothing is lost for good.

Undo still works after you restart Munu or the computer. It is on the job card on your phone, in the list of jobs on your computer, and on the Island. It is not there while the job still runs, for a folder with more than 50,000 files, or when the computer has no git.

While a job runs you can send it a new instruction from your phone or from the computer. Codex reads it as soon as it finishes its current step. If the job has already finished, Munu says the message was not delivered, and you can start a new job with it.

The chat window

The Windows and Mac apps have a chat window. It is the same Munu as the voice, with the same memory and tools, and it works with the microphone muted. Open it from the tray or menu bar icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows or Cmd+Shift+Space on a Mac. You can change the key in Settings > Voice.

Press Enter to send. Drop files on the window or press Attach. The list next to Attach picks where the message runs: Auto, this computer, another computer, or a coding app. A job started from the chat gets a card with Stop and Open, and its answer lands in the chat when it ends. Typed replies stay quiet until you turn reading out loud on.

Munu inside your coding apps

After you install Munu, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI can use it with no setup from you. They get Munu’s memory and tools. A final click or send from one of them asks you first, the same way a Munu job does.

PDFs, pictures and video

Give Munu a file and say what you want, by voice, in the chat or in a job:

  • PDFs: put pictures into one PDF, merge PDFs, split one into pages, or read its text.
  • Pictures: change png, jpg and webp into each other, resize, or make a smaller file.
  • Video on your computer: “make this video smaller”, cut it between two times, turn it into an mp3 or a GIF, or ask what it says. Munu reads the captions, or listens on your computer when the English speech model is installed.

The video tools need FFmpeg and Deno. Munu downloads them once, the first time they are needed (about 110 MB on Windows), and checks each file before it uses it.

Limits to know

  • A phone that is paired only with a code does not get permission cards.
  • Pressing Enter to send a form, without a click, is not seen as a final button. A click made through a browser tool from another app is judged by the tool’s name, not by the button on the screen.
  • Allow always for a click in a browser covers that button on every site in that browser.
  • On a Mac, Munu does not click or read the screen in this version. It types and presses keys in the app you name.

Say its name. It answers.

Munu is a desktop voice assistant for Windows and Mac, with memory you own and hand control through your webcam.
